About Architecture – Tbilisi Prosecutors Office

Situated on the outskirts of the city center and close to the Tbilisi Court building the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office is the first project from a small team called ‘Architects of Invention’. This stunning structure consists of a stark black frame with overhanging volumes that are suspended in the air.

The choice of materials and the form have been chosen to reflect the function of the building. The stark geometry of the black frame represents the uncompromising nature of the legal system.

70% of the building is freestanding, creating an impression of ‘floating’ forms. The suspended volumes are staggered to create terraces and balconies.

The interior uses glass to create a feeling of transparency and light, in stark contrast to the dark framework.

Completed in February 2012, the building has work space for 60 members of staff.
